Like all clubs around the region, recruitment plays a big part in whether clubs will be successful for the upcoming season. The Geelong Umpires are exactly the same. We are always looking to give people an opportunity to be involved in the greatest game in the world no matter the gender, size or fitness level.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we Forget. Another great weekend of football from all involved with some close games to kick of the season. Last weekend we celebrated Noel Hooper’s 1400th match but we also had quite a few umpires taking part in their first match or debut in the seniors.
This week will see all leagues starting up after a successful start to the season in the BFL and the GFL game at Colac. This will also be for around 40 of our new members their first game of football as an umpire and speaking from experience, it is something you never forget. I would never have thought when I started umpiring 19 years ago that it would have given me so many opportunities to travel the country and meet some of my closest friends. It may be the start of a long and successful career for our new umpires so enjoy the experience.
How quick did that off season go! Welcome back to what will be an exciting year of football for the region of Geelong. Our umpires have been working hard during the pre season period to be up and about for round 1.
