Fitness is all relative to the level of Football you wish to umpire. Most moderately fit people would be able to cope with the rigours of U/14 field umpiring, however most senior field and boundary umpires would be well above average fitness. Goal Umpiring also enables those that perhaps don't wish to get too active with their umpiring to still make a significant contribution to our game. Our umpires train just like other sports, so regardless of where you are starting from, you can achieve greater levels of fitness, if thats what you want.

No! In fact many of our senior running umpires have never played football. Mind you virtually all of them are very keen football followers and love the great Australian game.
